TEQUILA & TACOS: Ola Mexican Kitchen

Named as one of Surf City USA's top Mexican restaurants, Ola brings on the spice!

From authentic flavors to salted margarita glasses, the experience is as visual as it is tasty.

TACOS ARE DELISH

On Tuesdays we want tacos! It was also my birthday and I was ready to celebrate and indulge with my bestie, Nancy. Can I tell you, I started thinking about the chips and salsa before we even drove up to the restaurant? If you've tried them, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Warm handmade tortilla chips made with chile con lemon served with fresh salsa are the bomb, and don't skip the guac... so delish with a kick.

The tacos are so stuffed with seafood that they're served open-faced (too loaded to fold). The blackened shrimp is my fave, love the pomegranate topping. And who can resist lobster tacos? Big chunks of lobster with sriracha-agave aioli (be sure to ask for an extra side of this deliciousness).

STUNNING OCEAN VIEW

Located directly across the street from Huntington Beach just south of the pier, you'll enjoy an oceanfront view from almost every seat in the house! Sandy beaches, palm trees and sunshine, an endless ocean of sparkling aquamarine, the sound of white water waves crashing. And of course... tequila and tacos!

Did you know, Ola means "wave" in Spanish?

After dinner we were treated to Ola's signature vanilla ice cream dessert, so decadent it's served in an oversized cocktail glass with warm homemade caramel filled churros, topped with whipped cream and raspberries.

IT'S TEQUILA TIME - CHEERS!

Ola is the ideal location to celebrate with a tequila cocktail on your birthday. Nancy ordered the classic Strawberry Margarita and I just had to get the Costa Azul Margarita, or as I like to call it, the 'Mermaid Margarita' - look at that turquoise!

FRIENDLY STAFF

We had the best waitress ever! Kalyn was super friendly and full of personality. When I shared with her my plan to feature Ola's 'Tequila and Tacos' in my blog, and capture some fabulous shots like those on the restaurant's social media page, she helped us select the perfect picture-worthy cocktails. Kalyn told us that she handles their social - and she graciously offered to help us with our photos. We couldn't go wrong with this social maven (and Nancy Higley's new iPhone 12 pro max) for stunning shots. You may notice, I'm using one of the shots as my new headshot for my blog - thank you Kalyn!

We also chatted with manager Kyle McAthy, who recommended his favorite authentic dish, Chiles Relleno - fresh poblano peppers stuffed with Oaxaca cheese. My tastebuds were already set on the tacos to die for, so I'll try out his suggestion on my next visit. He filled us in on the people who make Ola so successful. The restaurant is family-owned by two locals, and all the staff are HB locals. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, offering an upscale beach vibe experience.

Ola Mexican Kitchen with the 'best view in town' is open, including it's extended patio, and of course practicing current guidelines.

Great article and review. You couldn't ask for anything more in a beach locale. Happy Belated Birthday my friend! I too now want the tacos! To bad I hardly ever get to So Cal!
